Meal prep for athletes in Madrid (2026): how to choose a service that genuinely supports your goal

Weekly high-protein meal prep menu in Madrid

Choosing sports meal prep is not about finding the box with the most protein. It is about building a week of food that fits your training, goal, dietary requirements and real life.

Quick summary

The best meal prep for an athlete in Madrid is tailored to the goal — bulking, cutting or recovery —, training days and dietary requirements, while making progress measurable. My answer is premium meal prep designed and cooked by a chef with over 25 years in the kitchen, supported by La Bible du Meal Prep and the Meal Prep 360 app.

This guide covers what makes sports meal prep different, seven selection criteria, protein evidence, goal-specific plates and safe storage.

What meal prep for athletes actually means

Meal prep means planning, cooking and portioning several days of food in advance. For an athlete, each portion consistently supplies the energy and nutrients required by training.

The difference from generic healthy delivery is intent. The right question is what your body needs this week to build muscle, lose fat without losing performance or recover more effectively.

Meal prep in Madrid in 2026: four models, four audiences

Madrid has a broad fitness-food delivery market. Each model suits a different need.

ModelHow it worksBest suited to
Weekly subscriptionChanging menu, standard portions, delivery.Convenience and variety without a precise sports goal.
Macro-labelled fitness mealsA catalogue with calories and macros.People who already calculate their own targets.
Dietitian-led plansProfessional nutrition plan with matching meals.Clinical or dietary support.
Bespoke chef meal prepMenus built around goals, training, tastes and restrictions.Athletes who expect both results and flavour.

Seven criteria for choosing meal prep in Madrid

1. Who designs and cooks: technique keeps food appealing over several days.

2. Genuine personalisation: goals, training and rest days, meals, allergies and preferences belong in the recipe from the start.

3. Coordination with your registered dietitian: the chef executes the plan rather than replacing clinical care.

4. Ingredient quality and protein variety.

5. Food safety through rapid chilling, cold-chain delivery and clear use-by dates.

6. Progress tracking across meals, weight and training.

7. Flexibility around holidays, competitions, injury and changing goals.

What the science says — and what it does not

These are general references, not individual advice. The ISSN considers 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day sufficient for most people who train. A 49-study meta-analysis found the average muscle benefit levelled off at about 1.6 g/kg/day.

Distribution matters too: several servings of roughly 20 to 40 g, around every 3 to 4 hours. That is why I design a complete week rather than isolated dishes.

Bulking, cutting and recovery: how the plate changes

These are broad culinary principles. Exact values are agreed with the client or their dietitian.

GoalPriorityIn the kitchen
Build muscleModerate surplus, protein and enough carbohydrates.More grains, tubers, pulses, quality fats and a protein snack.
CuttingSmall deficit while keeping protein high.Lean protein, high-volume vegetables and flavourful low-fat cooking.
RecompositionStable calories, training-led carbohydrates.More carbohydrates on strength days, fewer on rest days.
RecoveryRestore energy, variety and hydration.Complete post-training meals, fish, fruit and seasonal vegetables.

My service: premium chef meal prep in Madrid

I’m Thierry Gustin, a French chef with over 25 years in professional kitchens and more than 14 years in Madrid. I cook for strength athletes, footballers, combat-sport athletes, runners, training couples and people with detailed dietary restrictions.

The service follows five steps: a goal and training questionnaire; a personalised menu proposal with indicative macros and quote; weekly cooking with fresh produce; chilled Madrid delivery; and progress-based adjustments using Meal Prep 360.

Delivery covers Madrid — including Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartín, Retiro and Centro subject to availability — plus La Moraleja, Pozuelo, Las Rozas, Majadahonda, Boadilla and Aravaca.

I am not a registered dietitian and do not prescribe therapeutic diets. Medical or clinical needs must first be set by an appropriate professional; I turn that guidance into food you will want to eat.

La Bible du Meal Prep: the complete method in a book

For anyone who prefers to cook at home or understand the reasoning behind each plate, I wrote La Bible du Meal Prep, published in French and English.

It contains over 400 pages and 28 chapters, 90 high-protein recipes with macros, 12 sample weeks for bulking, cutting, endurance, combat sports and weight categories, plus guidance for allergies and vegetarian diets.

Meal Prep 360: measure whether you are progressing

Eating well is half the work; the other half is measuring. Meal Prep 360 combines meals, calories, macros, water, workouts, training loads and body-weight trends.

The app is available in beta and helps me adjust client menus from data rather than impressions.

Service, book and app: one method

How to store and reheat meal prep safely

Keep the fridge at 4 °C or below and use cooked food within 3 to 4 days. Cool it quickly after cooking and reheat the centre to at least 74 °C.

For a full week, use two deliveries or freeze the final days’ portions. Always follow the date on the label.
